The work of José Ángel pushes and questions the limits between drawing and painting. Through these mediums he reflects on his place of origin, natural phenomena, and ancestral knowledge and art. His interest in astronomy and observation of the sky is very present in his work, especially in drawing, as well as his closeness to nature and the endemic animals of the region where he grew up.
José Ángel also uses wood panels, fresco, and ceramics to create pieces that address issues of identity, memory and belonging through the use of symbols and characters in his work. He also reflects on the role of the native languages and local traditions as an element of identity within a society affected by global issues.
