Leopoldo Méndez (1902 - 1969)

Dos Galleros, ca. 1940
12 x 16 in (30.48 x 40.64 cm)
Two Mexican men stand holding roosters. They stare at each other aggressively. One wears a suit and tie, the other is dressed in simpler clothes. Behind them are two wooden boards shaped like men. A knife sticks in a part shaped like a heart on one of the boards. In the other board, the knife has fallen out. A superb, dark impression with strong contrasts.
